Various - Vanguard or Vandals : Youth, Politics, and Conflict in Africa

Historians and social scientists who have done field work in Africa—address the political and conflict-generating potential of youth and generational conflict in Africa, and describe their societal manifestations and causes. The large numbers of youth and their widespread poverty make them easy recruits for political parties, armed groups, or criminal networks. They look at the history of youth as agents of change; state, crisis, and the mobilization of youth in several specific countries; and interventions to deal with youth in crisis.
